The current crop of eighth-generation console has already gone through several upgrade since its introduction in 2013. From the original PS4 and Xbox One to the upgraded Xbox One S, the upcoming Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro, gamers now have a plethora of options to choose from.

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Patcher, who been known for his gaming predictions, recently aid that the next generation PlayStation 5 could arrive in the holiday of 2019. He did base his prediction on the fact that Sony will launch the new console once market share for 4K TV reach 50 percent in the US and 35 percent internationally – and that is most likely to happen in 2019 or 2020.

Since 4K is the talk of the town, that will be one of the main features of the PS5. At the moment, the PS4 Pro supports 4K, but only on some titles. Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One X might be the first true console to support native 4K gaming. Backward compatibility is also ensured, which would make upgrading to the new console even easier.

Consoles typically have a seven-year gap until the next generation, so the 2019 – 2020 sounds just about right. I’ve just recently upgraded to a PS4 Pro – which I’m hoping I can use for another couple of years.
