The era of the virtual switch is here, and it’ll change the way you live

The Internet of Things is almost fully upon us, and Makook Smart Living seeks to leverage that to your benefit. Think a seamless way to integrate technology, where from the point you wake up to the point to sleep, technology is a silent, productive partner in the everyday.

Today we had a chance to chat with the charismatic CEO of Makook Smart Living and serial entrepreneur Nasri Tehini, and CEO of Prodea Systems and space explorer Anousheh Ansari, as they demoed the latest iteration of Makook Smart Living.

The Makook team took us through a day-in-the-life with smart technology. The ability to monitor home from anywhere in the world, automated lighting, music and movie streamed to your tablet, or simply an annoying, static-filled retro radio feed in the morning that switches off only once it detects your movement across the room, we were sold on the power of tech to simplify and automate connectivity between people, their homes and their communities.

jcrop-previewNasri Tehini, CEO of Makook Smart Living said, “The Internet of Things is truly upon us and I am thrilled to be able to announce this launch which makes so many technological ambitions an affordable reality. People have for a long time wanted a simplification to the management of their complex platforms and devices, and a more relevant and enjoyable experience in a very crowded technology environment. We are now able to deliver on the promise of making aspects of people’s lives smarter and more seamlessly integrated.”

Needless to add, a feel of sci-fi pervaded through the whole presentation. As Ms. Anousheh Ansari mentioned, “As end users, what’s happening is we have to deal with the complexity of technology, how to make it compatible, how to make it work, how to get devices to talk to each other. In a way it was a selfish thing, because I wanted all the wonderful things you see in SciFi movies. I’m a huge Star Trek fan, I wanted a Star Trek home, but making it happen was very difficult and very cumbersome. So we tried to build a platform to make it simple and accessible. To make it simple like any utility you have for the end user. Also, we thought it’s important for this to be a service. It can’t be something you just buy from a store and try to put together, because it will get complex so it to be a service. So we built the capability for it to be a service where a service provider like Makook can bring it to life and also be there when you need help and need support.”

At launch, Makook is going to focus on entertainment, automation, monitoring and security, energy efficiency, and networked personal data storage, with plans to introduce state-of-the-art applications such as e-Education and e-Health.

The UAE is the first stop for the Makook Smart Living platform, with the service being offered directly to consumers online and later in sales kiosks and retail outlets. This will essentially serve as an example of a self-standing and fully-featured Makook offering that can be replicated, all or in part, in any other MENA market.
