1. The movie was based from a French-language comic series titled Valérian and Laureline which was written by Pierre Christin and illustrated by Jean-Claude Mézières. Director Luc Besson was a big fan of the comics.

2. Even if the comics was presented in French, director Luc Besson intentionally made the movie in the English-language to appeal to a more global audience.

4. The Fifth Element’s effects were one of the best we’ve seen on film, but that movie only had 188 visual effects shots. Valerian will has more than 2734 visual effects shots.
