Call it Snapchat 2.0. Facebook has again updated its Messenger app to include more functions that makes it almost an exact copy of Snapchat. Not that we don’t like it, since we’ve come to use Messenger more often than we should so the new features are definitely welcome.

Some of the new features include Group Video Chat, which will come to the iOS and Android apps along with support for the desktop version. “More and more people use messaging in groups for lots of different reasons like keeping everyone up to date, planning a family vacation or to share a few jokes. With 245 million people making video calls in Messenger every month, now we’re bringing everyone on Messenger the ability to turn group chats into face-to-face conversations no matter where you are,” the company said in a blog post.

Facebook mentioned that up to 50 friends could join in on a video chat, with the option to just listen in, use only voice or also be available on video. Additionally, 3D masks have been added to the app that lets you add augmented reality masks just like the ones you use on Snapchat.

The only drawback is that since VOIP services are essential blocked in the UAE, there is a good chance that residents won’t be able to enjoy the new feature.

Facebook Messenger is available for free on iOS and Android.
