Iran bans Pokémon Go

You can’t catch them all.

Pokémon Go is unarguably a fun game, but its recent success is also being challenged by various laws that claim the negative effects of the popular game.

Iran for instance is the first country to officially ban the game. The country’s High Council of Virtual Spaces imposed the ban amidst growing concerns on security – which may point out to some players trespassing on places without unauthorized access.

The game has also faced similar bans in other cities, though Iran is the first country to do so. In New York, registered sex offenders are forbidden to play Pokémon Go. Even here in the Middle East, fatwas were already issued against the game. No bans were placed in the UAE, though various reminders and warnings were repeatedly announced by the government to players who something unknowingly walk into busy roads.

Pokémon Go uses location and augmented reality features to find Pokémons in a specific area. It gained more than 10 million downloads after its first week of release. At the moment, the game is still not officially available in the Middle East, though there are various ways to obtain the app.
