First robot cop to join the Dubai Police force this May.
Imagine a machine patrolling the streets of Dubai handling all the tasks being done by the same human police officer. Similar machines are already put in place in some cities, and Dubai is next.
By this May, Dubai Police is set to roll out the first police robot with a promise that about 25 percent of the robot will be part of the force by the year 2030. A statement by Brigadier Abdullah Bin Sultan, Director of the Future Shaping Centre of Dubai Police, said: “We are looking to have more robots in future to handle policing. By 2030, we are keen to make robots around 25 per cent of the total police force.”
The move is part of the city’s ‘smart’ efforts, offering various ways in using technology as a means to make services easier and more efficient not only for the force but for the public as well. This also includes building a smart police station that Dubai Police says won’t need any human employees.
Utilizing the use of a robot cop could prove beneficial for the police force especially in a situation that’s too dangerous for a human to be involved. Guess it’s safe to say it will be a real life Robocop (though the image above may not resemble the final look).
How comfortable are you with robot cops patrolling the streets of Dubai? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
