Google’s next flagship smartphone.

While notably absent from the recent Google I/O keynote, the existence of a new Pixel smartphone from Google is still on the radar of Android loyalists. The first generation Pixel wasn’t perfect, but it’s the smartphone of choice for most Android users.

Google is still mum about the new smartphone, even with various rumors and other evidence pointing as to what the new device might look like or what specifications it will be running on. The specifications were somehow confirmed last month when a benchmark test result has shown on GFXBench, where a supposed Pixel 2 XL will sport a 5.6-inch display with an incredible 2K resolution running on a 2.4 GHz octa-core processor along with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, which is currently a new standard on smartphones at the moment. There is also a 12-megapixel camera appearing on the spec sheet and here’s hoping it will be the same (if not improved) camera present on the previous Pixel devices.

Though there’s a slim chance the new Pixel devices won’t go the bezel-less route, considering that the price might go higher if that happens – not that the Pixel smartphones are cheap to begin with.

But in terms of design, we’re still pretty much blank, but that wouldn’t stop designs from appearing, and Google should seriously consider some of these concepts. Take for instance this one from Jonas Daehnert for Yanko Design, which could make us even more excited about Google’s upcoming flagship.

There’s a good chance Google should announce the new Pixel smartphones later this year to coincide with the release of Android O (where we could finally learn its actual name) so stay tuned!
