What the found on the source code is the existence of an infrared face unlock method contained within BiometricKit, which is the framework that powers Touch ID. Codename Pearl ID, this method will allow a registered face to unlock the iPhone and has the ability to detect the face even if it’s too close to the screen or if your face is placed in a weird angle.

It also somehow confirms that this will be the new way to unlock the iPhone, and with the new bezel-less design it we’re still not sure if Touch ID will be making an appearance or not. Apple might pull a surprise and hide Touch ID underneath the screen, or place it at the back – but that didn’t design change wasn’t really accepted by fans when Samsung did it on the Galaxy S8.

We only have about a month before the new iPhone gets unveiled so until then, we can only see the various leaks and rumors floating around.
