Sennheiser is serious about gaming. Aside from the current line of gaming headphones, the company has also released this small amplifier capable of offering 7.1 surround sound: the Sennheiser GSX 1000.

The Sennheiser GSX 1000 is compatible with either a PC or a Mac, and you would simply need to connect the amplifier using a USB cable and run your headphones from it. Sennheiser says that its own Virtual Surround Algorithm was made to give the best audio performance, which could benefit you more when playing games.

There are even LED bars on the four corners of the Sennheiser GSX 1000 that are actually touch sensitive. Touching them will activate special profiles which you can assign and change on the fly.

The device is small, and the main jog dial that controls the volume also houses the touch sensitive controls that adds more functionality to it. Think of it as an external audio processing device for your PC or Mac.

Once turned on most of the functions will light up on top of the jog dial. These functions, which include the EQ, sound focus, surround sound switch, side tone level, reverb level and listening device switches, are all operated by touch.

So how does it perform? For testing, I hooked up the Sennheiser GSX 1000 to my gaming PC and my MacBook Pro and used a Sennheiser GSP 300 gaming headset.

Playing games like Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Titanfall 2 brought forward the best capabilities of the Sennheiser GSX 1000. Audio was distinct, and turning on surround mode gave new dimensions in listening especially when done during gameplay.

Overall the Sennheiser GSX 1000 is a great addition to any gaming setup. The only caveat is that it’s asking price (899 AED) is a little steep.

We Say

The Sennheiser GSX 1000 offers a great sound upgrade to your gaming setup – if only the price was affordable.
