Sony working on Xbox's Kinect counterpart for PS3

They may have missed the big bus full of Kinectilicious goodies, but Sony is finally stepping up to the task of releasing its own version of the Kinect.

Hopefully, this will turn into a bestseller too. Filed by Sony research and development wizard Dr. Richard Marks, the patent is for a camera that, when plugged into a PS3, optically reads player positioning and movement and creates, quote, a "user-driven three-dimensional interactive gaming environment".

Marks also developed EyeToy and the PlayStation Move, and at the time, he expressed finding the Kinect "limited". So end of 2012, then. Well Marks, let's see if you can come up with something better.

Any guesses on what it could be called? We're suggesting "The Sony Actuate". Hopefully, Sony won't forget to reward our precious lexical contribution.
