Sony launches the Xperia Z in Dubai

It could be the defining phone for the Xperia range, and we had a glimpse as Sony today launched their flagship Android smartphone, the Xperia Z.

In the race to the top of smartphone hill, we’ve seen quite a few contenders this year, and the Xperia Z stands tall with them on the specs end. The water resistance element may have been a tad overdone at todays event in Dubai, yet NFC, vastly improved battery life, a really smooth design aesthetic and display strengths will be key to the Xperia Z’s success.

This one goes the distance with a 5” Full HD 1080p Reality Display powered by the Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor and a 13 megapixel fast-capture camera. In terms of NFC, the brand has been quick to incorporate the same in multiple devices, right from headsets to Bravia TV’s. Battery life is a focus too, with Stamina Mode improving standby duration by a claimed four times or more by automatically shutting down apps.

Rudinger Odenbach, Vice-President at Sony Mobile Communications Middle East and Africa, said: “The XperiaTM Z is a game-changer in smartphone technology. It has generated a great deal of excitement internationally since its official launch at the CES in Las Vegas. We anticipate the ultimate range of rich user experiences offered on this stellar model from the XperiaTM range to increase the momentum several times over in key MENA markets.”

Here's our quick hands-on preview, if you don't mind the Arabic subtitles.
