How did the Geox brand come about?

Geox has an interesting story behind it since it started from one idea and from that, it created a global brand. It started with me being the chairman, inventor and founder of the brand. Now it’s a public company in the Milan stock exchange and I run about 71% of the shares. In the early 90’s I was walking in the desert in my free time. I cut the rubber on the sole of my shoes since it was becoming uncomfortable to walk in them. In that way, I created ventilation in the shoes and later on, I started the solution by introducing the rubber bottom sole and membrane. The membrane is both waterproof and breathable at the same time. With this technology, your feet stay dry all the time.

What do you attribute Geox’s success to?

The brand’s success comes from its combination of two elements: technology and Italian style. When talking about technology, Geox started in including this element in the early 90’s. Ninety-five percent of the population around the world, including Lebanon, use rubber bottom soles. Whether it’s for women, children or athletics, only Geox uses this particular technology as it’s patented globally. So Geox represents a revolution and the future because of this patent, making it the only one that can produce this particular technology. In Italy, Geox is in the leading position in the ladies shoes category due to technology and fashion, and globally, we’re in the leading position in the lifestyle category.
