DxOMark just gave its highest rating to this smartphone camera

If you care about the numbers.

DxOMark is famous for rating various cameras on a numbered scale, where it constantly rated Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S8 and HTC U11 as one of the top performing devices. Since everyone loved numbers, even Google famously said its current Pixel smartphone has been rated a score of 88, the highest score a smartphone could get – but that didn’t last for long.

Apple’s iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus now holds the highest score DxoMark has given to mobile device, with a score of 92 and 94 respectively. Last year it gave a score of 85 to the iPhone 7 and 88 to the iPhone 7 Plus.

The reason for the iPhone 8’s high marks (the Plus in particular) is thanks to the improvement in HDR processing, which DxO said is as good as the HDR performance done on the Pixel smartphones. The overall improvement in camera sensor technology is one of the reasons it managed to get a high score.

The upcoming iPhone X will have even better specifications that include a wider camera aperture on the telephoto lens along with support for optical image stabilization – which could also translate to even better photos.

Not everyone cares about the numbers for sure, but since we love comparing benchmark scores and other numbered comparisons, then Apple’s latest iPhone is currently on top of the smartphone camera game.
