After a leaked image circulated the interwebs a few days ago, BlackBerry has officially announced the Motion is its next smartphone. The announcement was made during the first day of GITEX Technology Week.

The Motion is the BlackBerry’s first smartphone to have IP67 certification, meaning that it is water and dust resistant. The front part of the smartphone features a 5.5-inch full HD display which the company claims is virtually scratch-resistant, along with an aluminum frame for a firm and durable form factor. There’s also a fingerprint scanner built-in and USB-C port for charging and data transfers.

Another awesome thing about the BlackBerry Motion is the inclusion of a massive 4,000 mAh battery that should be able to last you for about a full day of usage. It will run Android 7.1 Nougat and BlackBerry confirmed that it will be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo as well.

Just like previous BlackBerrys, the Motion will also feature some of the most secure applications you will find on a smartphone. This includes hardware and software encryption that will help you protect some of your most confidential files.

A unique hardware feature on the BlackBerry Motion is a new ‘Convenience Key’ that let you switch between various customizable profiles that can also automatically turned on with special tasks like when Wi-Fi or Bluetooth is turned on.

The BlackBerry Motion will go on sale later this month for 1,699 AED which puts it in the same price bracket as the recently announced Nokia 8. Pre-orders start today at select retailers.
