Yes, it’s the iPhone.
Despite the multiple product launches from other manufacturers, Apple’s iPhone 7 still managed to become the top-selling smartphone of the first quarter of 2017. This is despite the year-by-year drop in sales for Apple’s flagship device.
A report by Strategy Analytics said that the iPhone 7 6.1 percent of the total smartphone shipments while the iPhone 7 Plus sits at 4.9 percent. This translates to 21.5 million iPhone 7s and 17.4 million iPhone 7 Plus units sold.
Surprisingly in third place, Oppo managed to beat out Samsung to place third on the list. Samsung’s budget smartphones, the Galaxy J3 and the Galaxy J5 completes the top five.
Oppo proves that it has the capability to match sales mostly dominated by bigger brands. The Chinese company joins the ranks of Xiaomi and OnePlus as one of the most profitable smartphone brands in the country.
Note that recent smartphone releases like the Galaxy S8 didn’t make it list because it was release last month, which is the start of the second quarter of 2017. It should be interesting how the list will change after the record-breaking sales of the Samsung Galaxy S8.
