On March 26, 1987, Nike started a revolution with the release of its Air Max 1 running shoes. It marked the change Nike implemented in its designs thanks to the incorporation of Nike air cushioning.

Now, 27 years later, on the same day it was created, Nike is kickstarting the celebration of its successful construction by releasing a limited edition Nike Air Max 1 Premium QS.

The concept of the unique running shoes actually started in 1977 when aerospace engineer, Frank Rudy, visited Nike’s World Headquarters and brought in a pair of running shoes that were fitted with a prototype Air-Sole unit.  Soon after, the concept was applied to the Nike Air Tailwind.

Footwear designer, Tinker Hatfield, decided that if a part of the midsole was cut away to show the customer the actual airbag, then everyone could get a better idea about it. Does this ring a bell?

Yes, the rest is history. Nike’s President and CEO, Mark Parker, tried Hatfield’s vision by executing it into prototypes, which led to the creation of the Air Max 1 and the following Air Max models.

The Nike Air Max 1 Premium QS will be available for purchase in the GCC only at the Level Shoe District.
