Belkin Boost Up Wireless Charging Pad Review

Index

Boost Up your iPhone.

Boost Up your iPhone.

Wireless charging isn’t a new technology – though this is the year when it finally made its way to Apple’s flagship iPhone devices. The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X all support the Qi standard for wireless charging, which is what most wireless chargers already follow.

Apple plans to release their own wireless charger in the form of AirPower – though that’s only scheduled to release next year. For now the company has endorsed third-party manufacturer Belkin who has released a new Boost Up Wireless Charging Pad made especially for Apple’s iOS devices.

It’s similar to previous Boost Up wireless chargers released for other devices, but of course this one is made for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X.

The charging pad comes in a circular shape, with rubberized rings to keep your phone in place when charging. There’s a small LED on the side that lights up to tell you when wireless charging is initiated. Wireless charging will still work even if your smartphone is in a case, as long as it’s not thick enough to block it.

The Boost Up Wireless Charging Pad offers 7.5 watts of power but at the moment, the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X will only be able to charge at 5 watts (which is the same charge you’ll get from the bundled wall charger). A future software update will enable fast wireless charging.

That being said, if you really want to take advantage of fast wireless charging, the best option is to get the USB-C to Lightning cable plus USB-C wall adapter which of course, will cost you.

I’ve placed the Boost Up Wireless Charging Pad next my desk, and the convenience of placing my iPhone and letting it charge is an improvement compared to me constantly looking for the wire when I need to charge.

It has its flaws, but the Boost Up Wireless Charging Pad is still one of the best accessories you can get for your iPhone.

The Belkin Boost Up Wireless Charging Pad retails for 249 AED.

We hate
  • 7.5 watt charging will only be enabled with a future software update
  • Wired charging is still comparatively faster
We Say

The 249 AED Belkin Boost Up Wireless Charging Pad has its flaws, but it is still one of the best accessories you can get for your iPhone.
